A workshop, below the theme of ‘Application of FOSS in the IT infrastructure at the Ministry of Health – opportunities and challenges’, was held at the Sas Center for Mobile Apps Development not too long ago.
It was held by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) as element of their efforts to raise awareness and market the application of totally free and open supply software program (FOSS) in public and private organisations.
This workshop comes amongst a series of capacity developing workshops on FOSS options to accomplish the programme objectives as agreed earlier in 2017 in between ITA and SQU represented by the College of Engineering.
The workshop was attended by IT specialists and managers from government and private entities. During the workshop, a quantity of systems and applications employed effectively and efficiently at the Ministry of Health have been showcased which includes Samba open active guide presented by Faiza Aljabri, director of IT Infrastructure Department, and network monitoring program (Zabbix) presented by Tamam Alsharqi, network technician.
The workshop also incorporated a presentation titled, ‘FOSS Development in Ministry of Health’ delivered by Shaikha Alnomani, a programmer at Ministry of Health. The presentations have been also followed by open discussions.
