MoH mentioned that it expresses deepest condolences to the households of the deceased. “We also thank community members for their cooperation and understanding of the precautionary measures to be taken to control the spread of infections. “We are following-up on patients’ health conditions.”
The ministry also calls upon every person to seek info from dependable sources. “In addition, we urge citizens and residents to comply with the preventive measures when sneezing and coughing.”
As per the World Health Organization update, “At the end of December 2018, a total of 2,279 laboratory-confirmed cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, including 806 associated deaths (case-fatality rate: 35.3 per cent) were reported globally; the majority of these cases were reported from Saudi Arabia (1,901 cases, including 732 related deaths with a case-fatality rate of 38.5 per cent).”
‘Cattle, camels in Oman totally free of MERS-CoV’
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has mentioned that cattle and camels in the sultanate are totally free of MERS-CoV.
MoAF mentioned that it is following rumours on social networking web sites connected to the deaths of two individuals suffering from MERS-CoV. “We coordinated with specialists in the Ministry of Health and took random samples from the herds of cattle and camels in the area of these two persons who had contracted the disease. The results of laboratory tests showed that the animals are free from the virus.”
MoAF urges breeders to abide by all required precautions when dealing with animals.
