Suhar Hackathon concludes winners announced

The teams capped their journey at the closing ceremony beneath the patronage of H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications at the International Maritime College Oman.

IOT Logistics Solutions have been crowned the winners of the hackathon. The team received RO2,000 as money prize. Team Quartz secured the second spot and received a prize of RO1,500. The third position was secured by Digital Arch. They have been awarded a money prize of RO1,000.

Al Kattab al Maani, executive director of Oman Logistics Center at Asyad mentioned, “Sohar plays an important role in sultanate’s economic diversification and Suhar Hackathon introduced participants to business opportunities in the city and I was impressed with the solutions that were presented in 72 hours. We are excited to see these innovators build on what they started here.”

Organised by Asyad and Smart City Platform, Suhar Hackathon looked at offering options for the city in the 3 sectors: logistics, tourism and atmosphere with suggestions that integrated 3D printing, tube transport, cloud logistics, company intelligence, blockchain, large information, self-driving automobiles, robotics and automation.

The 3-day programme introduced participants to the company neighborhood in Sohar, exactly where they presented their suggestions to a panel of judges comprising Badar al Nadabi, group chief corporate assistance officer at Asyad, Dr Ali al Shaithani, director of Research Centers at The Research Council, Dr Mahab al Hinai, director of Environment Center of Excellence at Be’ah, Dr Hamed al Mahrazi, tourism advisor and Hassan al Ajmi, technical consultant.

Scores have been primarily based on creativity, teamwork, presentation delivery, possible for investment, sustainability and time management. Commenting on the part of hackathon in motivating the youth, Ajmi mentioned, “One of the key objectives of it is to provide a supportive and incubating environment for innovators as well as encourage young talent by providing financial and consulting support and integrated services.”
