Salalah declared Arab Summer Resorts Capital for 2019: MoT

Arab Tourism Organization has stated the aim is to develop competitors amongst the Arab cities. “There are standards to be followed to obtain the title of ‘Arab Summer Resorts Capital’ such as the management and organisational structure of a resort as well as infrastructure and services provided there. Other criteria include recreation activities, efforts made to preserve the environment, safety and security and tourism stability.”

It stated that the chosen city gains a lot in terms of financial returns with tourist arrivals anticipated to improve by up to 30 per cent.

Dr Bandar bin Fahd al Fahid, chairman of the Arab Tourism Organization, stated, “Salalah is an ideal tourist destination throughout the year. It is characterised by pleasant weather, beautiful landscape, sun, sea and sand. Salalah has many attractions such as Al Baleed site, Sultan Qaboos Mosque, Clock Tower Salalah (Burj An Nahda), Al Murooj Theater and frankincense trees. There is also the new Salalah Airport which is considered an urban landmark designed according to the latest international standards.”

Dr Fahid stated Salalah attracted about 900,000 vacationers in 2018 registering an improve of 28 per cent compared to 2017. “This is an opportunity for Salalah to increase tourist arrivals from the Arab and other countries.”
