Following the good results of Rossini’s L’Occasione fa il Ladro final season, La Scala di Seta is the second of 5 Rossini farces that Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will present as an entertaining educational project more than the coming seasons.
La Scala di Seta, Rossini’s 1812 farsa comica tells the tale of Giulia who is secretly married to a pal of the man her guardian is determined she shall marry. Every evening Giulia’s husband visits her on a ladder created of silk lowered from her window. Hilarious chaos ensues when the ladder is found.
This sparkling production by Rossini Opera Festival is staged in a ‘50s retro setting by the renowned Italian director Damiano Michieletto. A stellar cast of young Rossinian singers functions Spanish soprano Marina Monzó, Italian tenor Pietro Adaini, and Italian baritone Paolo Bordogna. Ivan Lopez Renoso conducts the Orchestra Sinfonica Gioachino Rossini.
La Scala di Seta will be performed on March 7 and eight at 7.30pm. An informative pre-efficiency speak will be held in the maidan on the second floor of ROHM creating a single hour prior to the efficiency.
