H E Eng Mohsen bin Mohammed al Sheikh, chairman of Muscat Municipality, has issued a selection (No 31/2019) banning barbecuing in some areas such as parks, some beaches and green places unless specified. Anyone who contravenes the provisions of this selection will be punished by an administrative fine of RO100.
The selection was issued on January 22 and comes into impact 30 days from the concern date.
Article 1 of the selection states: “Barbecuing in parks, beaches and green areas is prohibited except in sites designated for the purpose.”
Article two states: “Without prejudice to the penalties stipulated in Article 14 of Muscat Municipality Law referred to above, any person who contravenes the provisions of this decision will be punished by an administrative fine of RO100 with the violators being asked to remove the items from the spot.”
The selection was primarily based on Muscat Municipality Law issued by Royal Decree 38/2015.
Meanwhile, the Urban Inspection Department of Muscat Municipality in Bausher, in collaboration with the ROP, has carried out inspections in parks in Bausher. The inspection teams have fined some individuals for barbecuing in green places.
