Speaking to Muscat Daily, Abdul Samad bin Habib al Saadi, head of the team, stated, “The sultanate’s gliding team, formed in 2017, comprises 15 members.
Our team is attempting to attract international and nearby enthusiasts of paramotoring to Muscat Festival. The volunteer pilots who make up our gliding squadron deserve recognition for what they do.”
The team is participating in Muscat Festival for the second time, attracting curious youngsters in huge numbers to their stall. Describing the sport, Saadi stated there are two kinds of paramotors – foot launch and wheel launch. The foot-launch models consist of a harness attached to a frame, which has an engine and a propeller. The frame also contains a hoop and protective netting to separate the glider from the propeller and the engine. The glider wears the paramotor like a huge backpack which is attached to paragliding wings. The wheel launch models consist of a cart, typically getting 3 or 4 wheels with seats for a single or two occupants, apart from the elements of the foot-launch kind.
The glider controls thrust through a hand-held throttle and steers making use of wings brake toggles, stabilo steering or weight shifting, or a mixture of all 3. It is identical to paragliding except for the truth that it is powered so the use of an elevation or thermals – exactly where air rises due to heat – to ascend are not needed.
Talking about the team’s targets, Saadi stated, “We want to gather hobbyists and enthusiasts of paramotoring to share our experiences. We also want to participate in gliding activities held in Oman and internationally besides promoting the sport.”
He informed that these who take up the sport need to undergo a health-related examination and run routinely. The team performs a number of shows all through the year and undertakes courses in very first help and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
“I urge youngsters to take up this sport because it’ll help them gain strength, courage, endurance and patience,” Saadi stated.
