Over 6,000 attend International Day of Yoga event in Muscat

The event, which aimed to raise awareness on the physical and mental wellness of the folks by means of the practice of yoga, was organised by the Indian Embassy in Muscat.

H E Munu Mahawar, Indian Ambassador to Oman, stated, “Yoga is an ancient Indian practice which has been scientifically proved to possess numerous wellness and mental rewards. I encourage everybody to practise yoga each day, even for quick durations.

“And today you can see the enthusiasm, which shows how popular yoga has become in Oman.”

He added that the event was a grand good results with much more than six,000 folks turning up which includes numerous Europeans, Omanis and Arabs. Eighteen Muscat-primarily based yoga organisations also took element in the event.

The event was effectively supported by Omani government, with H E Mohammed bin Yousef al Zarafi, Undersecretary for Administration and Finance Affairs, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, getting the chief guest.

The 3-hour extended event was attended by numerous eminent personalities from round the city inducing physicians, company entrepreneurs, beauty queens, singers and sportsmen.

Omani football legend Ali al Habsi stated, “I am happy to be present at this event and witness the enormous enthusiasm among people doing yoga. I encourage one and all to include the art in their daily lives.” Similar yoga sessions had been also held in Sur, Sohar and Salalah. The International Day of Yoga is celebrated all more than the globe each year on June 21.

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The resolution was supported by a record quantity of 177 nations.
