Over 500,000 titles to be displayed at book fair

Addressing the press on Wednesday at the Oman Convention &amp Exhibition Centre, H E Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al Hasani, Minister of Information and chairman of the organising committee of the book fair stated, “There will be more than 523,000 titles, 35 per cent of which are new versions. The 24th Muscat International Book Fair will be held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre under the patronage of H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, and Al Buraimi governorate is the guest of honour.”

Elaborating on the participations, H E Dr Hasani stated 882 publishing homes are participating of which 629 are direct participants and 253 indirectly via agencies from 30 nations.

The highest quantity of participation is from Egypt (154) followed by Oman (122), Lebanon (81), Syria (74), Jordan (49), the UAE (42), Kuwait (32), Saudi Arabia (19), the UK (six), Iraq and Qatar (five each and every), Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey and Bulgaria (four each and every), Bahrain, Iran and Morocco (three each and every), Palestine, China and Canada (two each and every) and Italy, Libya, Japan, Sweden, Germany, Brunei, Pakistan and Sri Lanka (1 each and every).

The fair will be open from 10am to 10pm from February 21 to March two, except Frida (4pm to 10pm). Male students can pay a visit to the fair on February 21, 25 and 27 among 10am and 2pm although female students can pay a visit to the book fair on February 24, 26 and 28 among 10am and 2pm.
