Over 1,500 to take component in cancer awareness hike

The theme, ‘Together we can’ will give each and every involved person the notion of ‘I am and I will’.

“The expedition aims to raise awareness and funds for cancers and also produce a tier of OCA ambassadors for physical activity. We get in touch with upon folks from each Oman and abroad to register. We are seeking at 1,500 to two,000 folks.

“The funds generated from the hike will go to support Dar al Hanan, a home away from home where we support children with cancers residing outside the capital,” mentioned Dr Wahid al Kharusi, president of OCA.

Dar al Hanan gives accommodation, 3 square meals and shuttle service to the hospitals, all for totally free. It supports each Omanis and non-Omani households. So far, more than 480 households have been accommodated.

The expedition will be handled by Nasser al Azri, board member of OCA, who is in-charge of the logistics and organisation of the hike.

“The hike will begin from 7am. The start point will be Hussak Camp. OCA is expecting an attendance close to 1,500 to 2,000 participants for the hike which will involve 200 trained hikers and a safety team. The hikers will wear a pink T-shirt, to support breast cancer awareness, as breast cancer is the leading cancer in women in Oman. The idea is to turn the peak of Jebel Shams pink,” Azri mentioned.

In order to make this a good results, OCA will involve all stakeholders to help in the type of sponsorship. “We are working to get outside participants to be involved in this very important and historic hike. The registration fee for the hike is RO15 per participant,” Azri added.
