An official with the ROP’s eVisa project mentioned, “Currently five types of visas are available under the eVisa option. We recently launched a new email notification on visas granted which also includes the photo of the applicant. There will be similar enhancements and expansions before the end of the year but our focus at the moment is work visas.”
He also mentioned that the ROP employees at the Directorate General of Passport & Residence work 24×7 to make sure that visas are authorized in a timely manner. Most visas are authorized inside a day or significantly less, but we urge guests to apply a single week in advance. “Currently we are still allowing people of certain nationalities and GCC residents to obtain visas on arrival. However, it should be noted that ROP appeals everyone to obtain the visa in advance as this would speed up the process at the ports of entry.”
The official also mentioned that Oman now receives applications from all about the planet and in most instances guests do not require to pay a visit to the embassies when applying. “Recently we also modified the payment system for people using Oman-issued debit cards to conform to the Central Bank of Oman’s new regulations. This is needed before we start issuing work visas which are all applied from within Oman.”
Some Sanad offices are currently supplying the eVisa facility and this service will be extended and utilized significantly a lot more when the on the internet facility is introduced, he mentioned.
