Omanis celebrate Qatar’s Asian Cup title

As Qatar emerged a winner amid a deep political rift in the Gulf area, Omanis each right here and who have been at the stadium in Abu Dhabi, celebrated in a huge way. “We had to support Qatar because it is a good team. Its fans were banned from entering the UAE without a special permit and that resulted in almost none travelling to support their team. So, it was great gesture for Omanis to stand by Qatar. We are proud of the team,” Sleyyem Khalaf, former Fanja club goalkeeper, told Muscat Daily

The Qatari team arrived in Sohar on Saturday morning by road from the UAE. Mwasalat transported the team from Abu Dhabi to Sohar with hundreds of Omanis getting the champions outdoors its hotel. “Mwasalat is honoured to transport the champions of the 2019 Asian Cup on its buses from the city of Abu Dhabi to the sultanate in preparation for their return to Qatar,” Mwasalat stated.

Oman Football Association (OFA) chairman Sheikh Salim al Wahaibi along with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani and former OFA chief Sayyid Khalid al Busaidi reduce a celebratory cake to mark the title triumph at Sohar Airport ahead of the team’s departure to Doha on Saturday

In the UAE, the Qatari team did not get a likelihood to celebrate completely in the absence of its fans. Instead at Zayed Sport City, a excellent quantity of Omanis turned up to cheer its three-1 win more than Japan. “It was so sad to see no Qatari fans in the UAE to cheer their team. However, thanks to God that did not affect their performance. We are so happy to see Qatar lift the Asian Cup. This will show the world that sports and politics should not be mixed,” Mohammed al Naamani, an additional Omani fan, stated.

In the semifinal match against the UAE, Qatar enjoyed the assistance of a couple of dozen Omanis in the course of its four- win.

In the final, Omanis turned out in large numbers with maroon scarves with the word ‘Qatar’. Others held joint Qatar and Oman flags.

In Muscat, Omanis have been noticed honking and celebrating in their autos and raising Qatari flags in assistance of the Qatari team. “We have to support Qatar because we are all Arabs and we are all from the GCC. Most Omanis are proud of Qataris,” stated an additional Omani fan, Mubarak al Dhawi.
