Oman takes part in 23rd Session of UNWTO General Assembly

The sultanate’s delegation is getting led by H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism. H E Mehrzi mentioned that Oman’s participation in the meetings of the 23rd Session of the UNWTO General Assembly aims at solidifying bilateral relations in tourism sector and expressing Oman’s readiness to help the international efforts exerted for creating tourism.

“The current session attaches great attention to the role and significance of innovation in achieving sustainable development in tourism through reducing costs, increasing revenues, creating new jobs, and the optimal use of resources. It is known that achieving economic growth in tourism sector cannot be claimed without having some sort of resources sustainability which has been our focus in Oman through the sultanate’s Tourism Strategy,” H E Mehrzi mentioned.

The Secretary General of UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili briefed the attendees on the most recent activates of the organisation and the efforts for establishing an on-line academy for innovation.

He expressed his help to the suggestions the UNWTO produced on urban tourism which will be submitted to the General Assembly for approval. The Secretary General of UNWTO encouraged the members to help the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (SF-MST) and the UNWTO Agenda for Africa 2030.

Pololikashvili’s report addressed the present views in international tourism and highlighted that, backed by a fairly powerful worldwide economy, sophisticated tech, inexpensive travel expenses, and simpler visa procedures, it produced a record development in 2018.

According to the report, the international arrivals produced a six per cent development to 1.4bn folks which is a record that has been accomplished two years earlier of the anticipated date.

The report pointed out that the governments all more than the planet have a great chance to transform investment atmosphere into a lot more promising ones.

Till September 13 the session has an extended programme which also touches on sustainability, health-related and well being tourism, education and employment in tourism, and so on.

The session of the General Assembly of UNWTO which is held each and every two years is a great chance for all stakeholders from the public and private sectors all more than the planet to talk about and share understanding on the mechanisms and strategies of enhancing and optimising tourism.
