OCA to hold annual walkathon on Oct 29

Open to all ages, the walkathon aims to produce awareness on all types of cancer. OCA holds the occasion as the culmination of the Global October Pink Ribbon, a month-lengthy initiative which appears to produce awareness on breast cancer.

Dr Waheed bin Ali al Kharousi, chairman of Oman Cancer Association, stated, “The walkathon will start at 4pm and finish by 6.30pm. It is a symbolic walk of just under 3km. We ask people to register for this awareness campaign. Last year there were 8,456 registrations. Please support us to reach our target of 10,000 this year.”

Dr Kharousi stated, this year, OCA branches in Salalah (Dhofar), Dakhliyah, Dhahirah, Batinah and South Sharqiyah are organising their personal regional walkathons.

In Qurm, the walkathon will be held along a nicely-defined track in extremely protected surroundings for youngsters and adults.

A meals court will sell wholesome snacks to raise funds for the association. To assistance its mission OCA also plans to hold an exhibition of vintage automobiles and a bazaar.

During the month of October, the association will conduct awareness programmes in schools, colleges, universities, corporate institutions and malls. OCA will be providing educational components and clinical breast examination totally free of charge.

OCA will also make obtainable its mobile mammography unit providing totally free mammograms for ladies more than the age of 40 years.
