, Suad bint Said al Yazidi, director of the Child Affairs Department in MoSD mentioned, “The maximum was in Muscat governorate at 214 children, followed by 50 in North Batinah, 36 in Dhofar, 22 in Buraimi, 13 in South Batinah, nine in Dakhliyah, six each in South Sharqiyah, and Dhahirah, two each in Musandam and North Sharqiyah.”
Suad mentioned that the ministry keeps seeking for protected properties for orphans. “The ministry has set conditions that such families must be Omanis and can take care of a child socially, psychologically and economically.”
She mentioned that the ministry conducts healthcare examination of foster families to make sure that they are free of charge of infectious illnesses and mental and behavioural issues. “Parents need to be among 25 and 55 years and have to undergo healthcare tests and instruction courses.
“In addition, we conduct surprise visits to their homes to ensure they are following all the guidelines.”
Talking about the help to these families, she mentioned, “We give the children a monthly remuneration and scholarships even after they graduate from a university. If a child has been infected with any disease, we take care of the treatment inside or outside the sultanate.”
She mentioned that the ministry is cooperating with the Ministry of Manpower to supply them vocational instruction to get employed in the public or private sector.
“We are cooperating with the Ministry of Housing to provide them land for social and economic stability. We help them find a spouse and pay the cost of marriage,” Suad mentioned.
