Muscat –
The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) has authorized setting up an Omani Agriculture Association in North Sharqiyah that will make sure farmers in the area are looked right after effectively. Talks are on to establish much more such branches in numerous other governorates of the sultanate. The very first such association was established in North Batinah which continues to perform towards the welfare of farmers in the governorate.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Saed al Kharusi, chairman of Omani Agriculture Association in North Batinah governorate mentioned, “The establishment of a branch is a very important step because the governorate enjoys good weather for growing a variety of crops and vegetables. This branch will support Omani farmers, increase local agricultural produce and contribute to the national economy. The branch will also help the farmers in North Sharqiyah benefit from the expertise of other farmers in the region.”
Kharusi elaborated on the association’s objectives.
“The association will cooperate with government agencies concerned with the agricultural sector to solve all problems of Omani farmers. The association will also encourage farmers to use environment-friendly pesticides, avoid harmful chemicals and modern irrigation systems to reduce water consumption. The association will also motivate farmers to grow more seasonal crops, help market their products and open up new markets for them.”
