MoAF extends fishing, trade ban on sea cucumbers

The selection (No 25/2019) was issued by H E Dr Fuad bin Jaafar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, on February three, 2019.

The ministry had issued a comparable selection (No 69/2018) on sea cucumbers for a period of a single year on March 19, 2018.

According to Article 1 of the selection (No 25/2019), fishing of sea cucumbers in all Omani fishing waters is banned beginning from March 27, 2019, for a period of two years. Any sort of activity – regardless of whether transportation, storage, buy, sale and export – of sea cucumbers is prohibited in the course of this period.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, an official supply at MoFA mentioned, “The temporary ban has been issued for several reasons, including assessing the number of sea cucumbers in the sultanate’s waters and finding out the volume of global demand. Sea cucumbers help preserve the marine environment.”
