Ministry bans export of kingfish and longtail tuna

H E Dr Fuad bin Ja’afar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, lately issued the Ministerial Decision No 75/2019 banning the export of kingfish ‘kanaad’ and longtail tuna ‘sahwa’.

“Regulation of the ‘Sultanate’s Exports of Species of Fish Law’ prohibits the export of longtail tuna and kingfish,” stated the choice issued on March four.

The ban also entails a fine of RO100 for violators.

While Article two of the Ministerial Decision prevents export of the fish, Article 12 states that RO100 fine must be imposed on these who contravene the choice. The fine could be doubled for repeated violations, it added.

However, “The decision allows exporting canned fish of yellowfin tuna in frozen and chilled packaging, as it is intended to improve the quality, and provides additional value to the fish,” the ministry stated.

It added, “Chilled yellowfin tuna should be exported by air only.”

The exception also demands that businesses who are getting fish want to acquire a licence and get top quality certification authorized by the ministry.
