“For the safety of our guests and crew, Oman Air has prohibited the carriage of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro models in checked luggage,” Oman Air stated.
Apple, the manufacturer of MacBook Pro, had not too long ago announced the recall of restricted quantity of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro models. Affected models have been sold mostly among September 2015 and February 2017.
“Guests are to refrain from bringing the affected models in checked baggage. They may be allowed as hand-carry provided it remains switched off throughout the flight, protected from accidental activation, and not to be charged during flight,” it stated.
The airline has advised its guests to go to Apple’s MacBook Pro battery recall programme web page to get a lot more details.
The ban by flights across nations follows directives from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the United States Federal Aviation Administration that alerted airlines of the recall and banned the laptop models from flights.
Apple in a statement on the recall mentioned that it has determined that, in a restricted quantity of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery might overheat and pose a fire security threat.
“Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number. Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries, free of charge.”
