At present, Oman’s law demands all employers to finish the contracts of foreign workers when they attain the age of 60.
Now, the new selection permits expatriates who want to keep in Oman even following their retirement to apply for the citizenship as extended as they meet the criteria.

According to the ministry selection, expats have to fulfil specific criteria to get the Omani citizenship and the passport which includes filing an application that will expense RO600.

Indian national, Prabhakar Pethkar, 65, who has been in Oman because 1981, mentioned, “The move to invite Omani citizenship application is great. For people like me who have been in Oman for 38 years now, I cannot think of any other country to spend the rest of my life. I would definitely apply for citizenship.”

He mentioned that the move is also great for investors. “If foreign investors are given a chance to be citizens, they will work harder. They would know that they would be investing in the future of this country. It is the best country to do business.”

British citizen, Maggie Jean, who has been in Oman for 30 years, mentioned, “It’s a good initiative. I have been in Oman for 30 years and leaving this nation would be painful. I am glad that the citizenship criteria is clear now and just like numerous other people, I really feel encouraged to apply.

“Oman is a very interesting country and opening up the citizenship application process will help boost the diversity of the country which will eventually boost tourism.”

A Sudanese citizen who wished to be identified only as A B, mentioned, he cannot feel to leave Oman following living for 35 years.
“I am only left with less than a year to leave Oman but I can’t get over the feeling of leaving Oman. All my eight children were born here. They can’t think of living in another country. The last time I was in Sudan was in 2010,” he mentioned.

He mentioned that Oman’s government selection is the greatest point to occur to him. “I attempted some 3 years ago to apply but the application was suspended. Now, my hopes have revived. I will attempt once again and hope items perform out just before I have to leave Oman.

According to the Ministry of Interior, applicants will have to prove that they reside and perform in Oman, and that they have no legal case against them. “The application for the Omani citizenship will cost a fee of RO600, while the application for the expat wife, widow, or divorcee of an Omani citizen will cost RO300, as does the citizenship for an underage child of an Omani woman. The expats will have to undergo an Arabic language exam. The exam can be written, or it can be an interview in Arabic, at the ministry itself. Expats who fail the exam can repeat it as soon as six months have passed. They will have 4 probabilities to clear the exam.
