Marafi is the port operations and management organization established by Asyad, sultanate’s logistics arm which covers ports, totally free zones and other transportation sectors.
H E Sayyid Khalifa al Mirdas al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam had met Dr Ahmed al Abri, CEO of Marafi in the presence of other officials to speak about the planned improvement of Port of Khasab as a globe class port.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Raed bin Mohammed al Shehhi, chairman of OCCI’s branch in Musandam, stated, “Studies have been conducted to develop the port to attract investment and more tourists. “Some of the development proposals include the establishment of a duty free shop, other shops and tourist facilities. Land belonging to OCCI’s branch in Musandam will be offered for investment purposes.”
Speaking of the significance of building the port, he stated, “It will be very important for the local economy. The development will provide investment opportunities for local companies and new shipping lines.”
Talking about the funding possibilities for the proposed projects, Shehhi stated, “There are funding opportunities being offered by Oman Development Bank and Al Raffd Fund.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism has stated that 1,030,404 individuals visited Musandam in 2018. Of these 869,067 arrived by way of cruise ships and 132,704 stayed in hotels. Also, 28,633 visited castles and forts. The governorate has several tourism offerings in Khasab, Dibba, Bukha and Madha. “The cruise tourism season which began in October will see 72 ships visiting the Khasab port till May,” it stated.
