ITA, Omantel join hands for intelligent city project in KOM

As per the agreement, Omantel will supply the needed communication and assistance solutions like the Internet of items (IoT), cloud computing, and huge information to the intelligent city pilot project becoming implemented in the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM).

The intelligent city project is becoming implemented by ITA in cooperation with the Public Establishment for Industrial estates (Madayn).

The pact was signed by Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, and Talal bin Said al Mamari, CEO of Omantel.

On this occasion, Dr Ruzaiqi stated, “We thank Omantel for its support for the smart city pilot project in KOM which we are working on in cooperation with Madayn. Through this pilot project we seek to leverage the potential offered by IoT technologies and various smart systems to facilitate the management of KOM and provide swift services to employees working there as well as manage the available resources efficiently such as energy consumption, parking and traffic management and other services.”

He added, “We hope that this project to be a mini-model for a smart city application and can be implemented in other entities and industrial estates in the sultanate. This experiment will be used as reference for smart city specifications and requirements that will be implemented in future.”

Mamari stated, “We are pleased to have such partnerships in between the public and private sectors to contribute to the digital neighborhood and advantage from newest technologies in the ICT sector.

“This strategic partnership with ITA as the leader of e-Government is a complement to the government’s efforts in embracing the fourth industrial revolution technologies, including smart cities, IoT, artificial intelligence etc through the adoption of digital lifestyles associated with smart city in order to achieve a comprehensive vision for a digital society.”

He stated that the organization continues to perform with connected parties to lay the groundwork for a digital society in the sultanate.
