ITA forum explores trends in emerging technologies

The forum was held beneath the patronage of H E Eng Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Chairman of ITA Board of Directors, in the presence of Omar Salim al Shanfari, ITA’s Deputy CEO for Operations along with a quantity of IT officials and experts from government and private entities.

Held beneath the theme ‘Internet of Things (IoT)’, the forum aimed to discover the emerging technologies created by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, mostly IoT, and encourage their adoption in various function sectors in the sultanate, as nicely as establishing a discussion platform for enthusiasts and IT experts.

Hassan Fida al Lawati, director common of the Digital Society Development Division at ITA in his speech, mentioned, “IoT provides a powerful drive to digitalisation, connecting devices to the Internet. It provides an enormous opportunity for innovation and transformation.”

He added, “IoT growth is projected to grow rapidly over the years. Estimates of installed IoT devices worldwide vary widely. We can expect an increase of 20bn devices by 2020 to be installed globally.”

Jane Zavalishina, co-founder of Mechanica AI and an international speaker, presented a paper on IoT and governments’ function in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technologies to utilise information in creating smarter cities.

Salim Abid, developer ecosystem, Region Lead (Middle-East and North Africa) at Google, highlighted in his paper the future technologies trends of AI and supplied options for the challenges facing IoT.

Mohammed al Yahyaee, common manager, client solutions at Diam presented a paper on Diam’s encounter in incorporating IoT for wise metering.
