Maheen Nawaz Khan, a 12 year old girl from Indian School Ma’abela, lately bagged the fifth spot at the 3rd Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championship, held in Jordan.
She represented India and was educated beneath coaches Kamal al Busaidi and Musafir al Sinani. More than hundred participants from 22 nations took component in the championship. Maheen stated, “It has always been my dream to make it big in martial arts. I am very happy to represent India from Oman. I have been training in this art since class three. It is always a great feeling to represent the country. Right now my plan is to prepare for the World Championship in January 2020.”
She added, “With this competition, I realised how much preparation is required to achieve the title. I feel very proud and happy that I accomplished my dreams with the help of my parents and coaches. I also want to win gold in future competitions and make my motherland and Oman proud. And I want to be recognised by the entire world in Taekwondo.”
Maheen won her very first gold medal at the age of eight in the Oman Championship and she has so far bagged a total of 28 medals at a number of international competitions of which 22 are gold. The class VIII student was received at the airport by the Indian School Ma’abela principal P Prabhakaran and employees.
