H E Mehrzi urges Omani youth to join tourism sector

“Globally, tourism provided 330mn jobs in 2017. And according to World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism industry is expected to offer 440mn jobs by 2028. All over the world, tourism provides one in every ten jobs. Locally, tourism offered more than 16,000 jobs till the middle of 2019,” mentioned H E Mehrzi at an occasion held to commemorate World Tourism Day on Wednesday.

The day was marked to foster awareness amongst the worldwide neighborhood of the social, cultural, political and financial worth of tourism and the contribution that the sector can make towards reaching Sustainable Development Goals.

Oman’s occasion highlighted ministry’s endeavours to train Omani youth to function in the sector, reviewed operations and programmes on tourism awareness, and a quantity of effective tourism business SMEs.

H E Mehrzi highlighted that the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) does not spare any work in making job possibilities to assistance the governmental plans aiming at employing Omanis in distinct financial sectors.

MoT also encourages neighborhood communities to practise and initiate all activities necessary by the guests and vacationers and promotes tourism and hotel facilities to assistance the neighborhood communities by offering employment to their members.

“There are big efforts under way for training the Omani youth to work in the tourism sector by providing world-class education, either in Oman Tourism College or the other higher educational institutions of tourism and hotel specialisations. This is supported by programmes and initiatives aiming at addressing the obstacles and challenges facing the Omani youth seeking job opportunities in the tourism industry,” mentioned H E Mehrzi.
