Graffiti on Amerat-Bausher road creates awareness on wildlife

In an try to produce awareness on the wildlife indigenous to the sultanate, Eshraqa, Khimji Ramdas’ Social Development Arm, has initiated a graffiti-mural initiative in collaboration with nearby artists. Led by Zebrine, a group that promotes modern art in Oman, the artists have been drawing on the Amerat-Bausher road.

The initiative aims at reminding individuals about the conservation of wildlife in Oman. Nailesh Khimji, director, Khimji Ramdas, stated, “Our assistance to this inventive initiative is twofold – inspiring artistic development inside the sultanate and stimulating preservation of our national treasures. Our valuable wildlife plays an crucial function in balancing the atmosphere which additional stabilises organic processes of the ecosystem.

“Projects like these create points of conversation which work as educative references in the community while generating interest and awareness. The exposure is beneficial for young Omani artists who produce magnificent contemporary art.”

Authorised and suggested by the Wali of Amerat H E Sheikh Dr Yahya bin Suleiman al Nadabi and the Directorate of Amerat Municipality, the mountains now boast a assortment of wildlife pictures such as the Arabian gazelle, Arabian ibex, and caper plants.

H E Nadabi added, “We remain thankful to Khimji Ramdas for their financial support towards this modern and distinctive project and hope this generates responsibility amongst citizens towards safeguarding the Omani wildlife. The backing by Eshraqa has amplified the contribution and support by other corporate entities in promoting art within the community.”

Suleiman al Rashdi, the graffiti artist for the project, added, “Contemporary art is still young in Oman and we don’t get many chances to exhibit our skills without such projects. “We hope that graffiti will find a position in society through supportive platforms from the government and private sectors.”
