Cycling 1,400km in Europe to mark 49th Renaissance Day

Muscat –

An Omani cyclist will embark on a 1,400km ride from July 15 in 5 European nations to market Oman and celebrate the 49th Renaissance Day.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Yaarub bin Abdullah al Saifi, 34, who loves cycling lengthy distances, mentioned, “My trip will start on July 15. I will be touring the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

“My aim is to discover the world, spread the message of peace, promote Oman, make friends and celebrate the Renaissance Day which falls on July 23. I will be carrying the photograph of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the national flag during my trip.”

Saifi mentioned that he aims to market Oman by means of the distribution of tourism CDs and booklets. “This will be like the continuation of my last trip to the UK covering 1,100km. The trip will begin in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and I will cover 167km from July 15 to 17, Germany (443km) from July 18 to 23, Denmark (221km) from July 24 to 26, Sweden (421km) from  July 27 to 31 and Norway (148km) from August 1 to 2.”

Talking about his earlier trips, he mentioned, “I started cycling in 2015. The most important trips were Nizwa to Salalah covering a distance of 1,140km and Muscat to Khasab for 550km. I did another trip over 1,100km covering 20 wilayats in the process. Another trip I did was from Nizwa to Dubai (450km) and Nizwa-Mecca (2,150km) to raise awareness on cancer.”

He mentioned that raising funds has been the largest challenge. “My family has supported wholeheartedly all these years. I hope to get financial support to achieve my goal of travelling all over the world.”
