October 17 marks the nationwide Omani Women’s Day, which the sultanate celebrates annually below the Royal Directive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to honour Omani females and recognise the distinctive function they play in the society.
This year, the occasion was celebrated in Haima in Al Wusta governorate, below the auspices of H E Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah bin Ali al Khalili, Minister of Justice, and the attendance of H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development H E Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed bin Nassir al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education H E Sheikh Madit bin Mohamed bin Abdullah al Yaqobi, Governor of Al Wusta and Sheikh Suhail Mahad Ali Al Ma’ashani, Wali of Haima. Alya Saleh al Maimani, vice president of Operations, Oman North, at Occidental Oman, was present at the occasion as a representative of Occidental Oman.
The occasion, themed ‘The Omani Woman – A Partner in Sustainable Development’, featured a speech by Saif Mohammed al Shukaili, director of Social Development in Haima, focusing on the significance of this annual celebration and how it highlights women’s achievements across the sultanate. In addition, statistical study was presented on females in the sultanate, with specific concentrate on females of Al Wusta. This was followed by a presentation by Samtah Ali al Owaisi, president of the Omani Women Association in Masirah, highlighting her journey to grow to be a productive businesswoman in Oman.
Alya mentioned, “Occidental Oman is keen to celebrate this great occasion by supporting the Omani Women’s Day event in Al Wusta governorate, as we hope to highlight the significance of Omani women’s contributions and successes in our society. Occidental Oman’s social responsibility initiatives have in part focused on advancing women’s careers and lifestyles through training and development programmes.”
