The National Defence College (NDC) on Monday hosted Nickolay Mladenov, UN particular coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, to give lectures on the United Nations (UN) and the Security Council.
Also at the occasion was Lt Gen Ahmed bin Harith al Nabhani, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF).
Maj Gen Salim bin Musallam Qatan, NDC Commandant, welcomed the guest.
In his very first lecture themed ‘The United Nations and its role in the maintenance of international peace and security’, the lecturer addressed a variety of subjects that integrated the nature of function of the UN bodies, the basic principles and guidelines of the UN Charter, the UN part in supporting international improvement and peace programmes.
He also talked about challenges facing the UN in tackling worldwide problems.
The second lecture was entitled ‘The Security Council and its roles in global peace’.
