MoM meet discusses methods to raise Omanisation price in tourism sector

The meeting at Oman Tourism College was held inside the framework of the National Program for Enhancing Economic Diversification (Tanfeedh) in the presence of a quantity of officials, businessmen and specialists of the Implementation Support and Follow-Up Unit. During the meeting, the improvement of the labour force in the tourism sector was discussed searching at methods for employment and coaching mechanisms to overcome the challenges facing Omanisation in the field and the proposed options to overcome these.

Salim bin Naseer al Hadhrami, director common of Planning and Development in MoM, mentioned, “We held a meeting today with a group of 4- and 5-star hotels to discuss raising the Omanisation rates in this category of hotels. The meeting was attended by hotel industry as well as travel and tourism sector officials.”

He added that 31 per cent was identified as a pillar in the implementation of the programme in this sector. “There is an initiative in many hotels to raise this percentage and there are some hotels that are already exceeding the Omanisation rate and have about 50 per cent. Today we have gathered hotels that exceed the Omanisation rate and others that have not reached this rate to discuss how to reach the required percentage,” he mentioned.

Dr Abdulkarim bin Sultan al Mughairy, chairman of the Joint Committee for Omanisation in the Travel and Tourism Sector, mentioned, “This meeting comes in coordination with the travel and tourism sector committee where we gathered today a large group of hotels that did not achieve the Omanisation rate.” He mentioned coaching of Omani youth to enter the sector is a priority.
