Ministry of Housing mulls producing associations compulsory for sustaining residential buildings

Eng Siham Ahmed al Harthi, director common, Real Estate Development in the Ministry of Housing mentioned, “We want owners of properties to form an association much before he or she starts living in those houses. The owner’s associations will be responsible for managing and administering the common areas on behalf of all the owners, dealing with issues such as maintenance, security, rule enforcement and engagement with statutory authorities. Through home owners’ associations we aim to ensure that buildings follow local laws strictly like maintaining the beauty of the area, ensuring cleanliness in the compound and proper disposal of garbage.”

Eng Siham mentioned that flat owners in a creating can come with each other to type the association. “They can bring in a company who can take the responsibility of maintenance and the expenses can be borne by all.”

She mentioned that she had floated the concept on social media channels and the response was immense. “There are people who own villas and they do not mind forming an association for every 50 houses.”

The ministry is also organizing to reward the greatest house owners’ association. “We will have data of all associations and their work. We want to see if people care for their surroundings or depend on municipality for everything. We will reward them accordingly,” Eng Siham added.
