Mass wedding for 48 youths in Seeb

Speaking to Muscat Daily
, Bashir al Riyami, a member of the committee involved in organising the mass wedding, stated, “The social committee at the office of the Wali of Seeb announced about this initiative in September. More than 33 people from Seeb participated in the committee meeting headed by Hilal al Sarmi, a member of the Shura Council.”

Riyami stated that the initiative aims at assisting 48 Omani youths from the wilayat to get married. “The organising committee had set some conditions for those wishing to get married such as the groom must be an Omani residing in Seeb.”

He added that the organising committee would supply a venue for the marriage ceremony. “Our aim is to help them start a married life and control marriage-related expenses.”

Speaking about the initiative, Riyami stated, “We circulated the information on several social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. We received more than 1,000 phone calls and 300 text messages from youths in Seeb. We have selected 48 youths for the ceremony which will be held at Seeb Sports Stadium on November 20.”

Ibrahim bin Mubarak, a groom stated, “I am happy to be part of the mass wedding ceremony on November 20 coinciding with the National Day celebrations. It’s a good initiative to cut down on marriage expenses. Youths need such initiatives because marriage costs are high.” Another groom Muzahim Ahmed al Khanjari stated, “I am proud to participate in it as it helps reduce marriage costs. I hope that this becomes an annual affair. I thank the organising committee for supporting us.”

The mass wedding is getting supported by the Ministry of Civil Service.
