The Fisheries Development Department in the wilayat of Sohar, in cooperation with the Local Committee for Sea Traditions, on Sunday celebrated the opening of ice-producing unit in Majees village. It was held below the auspices of H E Dr Hamad bin Said al Oufi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for Fisheries.
The building of the unit was financed by Majees Industrial Services Company. Speaking on the occasion, Eng Abdullatif bin Mohammed al Balushi, director of Fish Development Department in Sohar stated that the integrated electrical unit connected to a principal manage area and a area for storing ice, will generate ten tonnes of ice per day as per higher requirements.
The production will meet the wants of fishermen in Majees and nearby villages in Sohar. The occasion integrated a presentation on the project. The participants and relevant public and private stakeholders involved in the implementation of the project had been honoured.
The ceremony was attended by H E Sheikh Muhanna bin Saif al Lamki, Governor of North Batinah, members at Majlis A’Shura, walis, sheikhs and dignitaries.
