Muscat –

To mark the International Dance Day on 29th
April, the Leelangika Kathak Group, led by their guru, Jhumpa Chakraborty, held a Tatkar Competition.

The art of dance visually represents the tradition, culture, and music of the individuals. Dance competitions bring to the forefront the correct kind of this art.

In the Kathak dance, tatkar is a sort of rhythmic footwork. Tatkar has created into a extremely sophisticated rhythmic pattern of footwork. This year with the theme of Dance Day becoming ‘return to the roots’, Leelangika celebrated the spirit of Kathak with a Tatkar Competition..

At the Tatkar Competition, the participating girls had been place into 5 groups according to their ages. The competitors took spot in a hall decked up with curtains of multicoloured dupattas by enthusiastic mothers. As the complete April moon climbed up the sky, the competitors saw the tatkar beat get a lot more and a lot more vigorous. The dancers seemed to have accomplished a trance-like situation of physique and thoughts as they matched music and movement.

The evening ended with a prize-distribution ceremony and Ms. Jhumpa Chakraborty awarded the trophies and certificates. In Group 1 (six-eight years) Jahnabi bagged the very first prize and Juana won the second position respectively. In Group two (9-14 years A) Anna got the very first prize although Rupsa and Kena bagged the second and third positions respectively. In Group three (9-14 years B) Aditi was declared as the winner although Shaivi and Vyatiba came in second and third respectively.
