Muscat-primarily based artist Ibrahim Gailani showcased his perform at Art Vancouver, the premium Western Canada art festival that draws crowds in the thousands, becoming the very first artist to represent Oman at the venue.
It was held in more than 4 days from April 19-22 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, with more than hundreds of participants from art galleries to international exhibiting artists. From the Middle East and North Africa area there have been 4 participants, a single from Sudan, a single from Turkey, a single from Qatar and Gailani representing Oman.
The opening evening saw thousands pack into the convention centre with a large queue tailing back to get in. Local movers and shakers and celebrities packed an auditorium exactly where the show opened with a unique ‘Face of Art’ runway show exactly where all participating artist had to stroll a catwalk holding their paintings marking the opening of the Art Vancouver Festival. For Gailani, it was a special encounter. He mentioned, “I felt like we were all rockstars walking on stage to cheering crowds when they announced my name and said from Oman a huge applause when out as I was one of the few artists that had travelled a long distance to be there.”
The painting that got the most quantity of interest was ‘The Seeking lips’ it was a topic about the search of that a single accurate adore who got away, and how a individual would move mountains to seek that accurate adore. People resonated so significantly with that painting, took selfies with it and study the graffiti at the background of the paintings. He added, “I feel that its my use of bold colours and old-school graffiti that makes the painting different. A lot of curators told me that it is like where the pop-art and street art meet on canvas.” Gailani is inspired from the early manifestations of graffiti. This is Gailani’s sixth exhibition in North America and very first in Canada.
