The Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) organised a forum on ‘Soil Cosmos as a Foundation of Food Security’ on Wednesday. It was organised by the Department of Soils, Water & Agricultural Engineering at the College of Agricultural & Marine Sciences of SQU.
The forum which saw the participation of researchers from the Netherlands and Oman was held below the patronage of Dr Seif bin Rashid al Shaqsi, director of the Directorate General of Million Date Palm Plantations Project of the Diwan of Royal Court, stated a press release.
Dr Said al Ismaily, assistant professor in the division was quoted in the release as saying that wholesome soils are crucial for reaching meals safety and nutrition and guaranteeing the planet’s biodiversity. The level of soil degradation globally is ‘alarming’ and has the possible to threaten meals safety and send several individuals into poverty.
