Dr Wahid al Kharusi, president of Oman Cancer Association (OCA) has turn out to be the very first GCC national to be voted into the Board of Directors (BoD) at the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The announcement was officially produced at the 2018 UICC General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Dr Kharusi was honoured in the presence of H H Dr Muna bint Fahad al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Relations of Sultan Qaboos University and Princess Dina Mired al Hussein, UICC President.
“UICC is a leading force in global cancer prevention. This is the first time a GCC national is given this honour. It reflects the work done by OCA in the field of cancer prevention and early detection. The UICC is working alongside more than 1,000 organisations in 160 countries worldwide. It represents the biggest union with members ranging from health ministries, cancer associations, patients, and researchers,” stated a press release.
