Civic physique cleans Seeb beaches, warns against dumping rotten fish

“This act is unacceptable as it causes environmental pollution. Stray dogs and insects feed on these rotten fish,” the municipality stated.

The municipality has roped in the essential manpower and gear to transport and dispose of fish from the beaches to preserve them ‘clean and free of charge from contaminants’, it stated.

An official from the Department of Health Affairs in the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Seeb mentioned dumping fish on beaches is a deterrent to households and vacationers wishing to pay a visit to these scenic beaches.

The municipality has referred to as upon authorities and nearby neighborhood members to raise environmental awareness amongst citizens and fishing boat owners.

Meanwhile, numerous citizens on social media voiced their issues on the concern and referred to as for stricter laws to curb such practices. Many asked for installation of surveillance cameras on beaches also.

Meanwhile, the Fisheries Control team below the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries not too long ago seized a quantity of unlicensed fishing nets. The ministry also seized a large quantity of fish dumped on the beach.

The violators had been transferred to the Public Prosecution for additional investigation.
