The stunning victory of Shonal Kunimal, the six and half year old young prodigy, the youngest and fastest driver in his Karting category (Bambino - Age between 5-9 years), who was crowned overall champion at the recently heldRMC (Rotax Max Challenge and Runner up in IAME X30 International Go-Karting Championship) inthe UAE was accorded an arousing welcome.

Kunimal walked into the victory right after beating 23 peers and older champions from across the GCC and distinct nationalities including the UK, the US, France, Greece. The occasion was held at the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) with the auspices and unique guests Sulaiman al Rawahi, head of OAA and graced by Hamed al Wuhaibi, Oman motorsport legend, Papri Ghosh, principal of Indian School Ghubra (ISG), Pyarija Cidar, vice principal, ISG, and Sanad al Rawahy, International Go-Carting champion.

Kunimal, a class two student of ISG created his adore for engines and roaring machines when he was just a toddler. His father, Shojai, supported and encouraged his son’s passion and adore towards the kart and speed, and when Shojai realised the innate talent in his son, he just knew that Kunimal was born to race.

At the age of six, Kunimal won his initial International Overall Championship in RMC and followed by Overall runner up in IAME X30 as well. In the debut International race season itself Shonal broke the records in Bambino category even whilst competing against drivers with three to four years of expertise. 

Multiple Karting Championships gave Kunimal the chance to discover from several talented international coaches from right here in Oman, from Poland and even from Spain. Rawahi, the young Omani coach and former globe champion, stated, “Kunimal is good listener and extremely passionate about karting. He is capable of achieving great results ahead. I can see spark in him and desire to excel.”

During the practice sessions and the several International races, motor sports legend, Wahaibi gave invaluable inputs to Kunimal. After Kunimal became the Overall Champion, Wahaibi stated, “This boy is super-fast. He has a wealth of talent and potential. Mark my words, he will go a long way in future. It is his determination, passion and love for motor sport that made him a champion for his age.”

“He is very calm, cool and in control of high speed reactions. We just supported him in his chosen passion,” stated Papri and Pyarija.
