Austria opens consulate, appoints honorary consul to enhance relations

A ceremony was held at Sheraton Oman Hotel on Monday to announce the appointment of Sheikh Faisal al Hashar as honorary consul of Austria in Oman.

The ceremony was held beneath the patronage of H E Mohammed bin Yousef al Zarafi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was attended by government officials, members of enterprise and Austrian communities, and other honorary consuls of the European Union.

Addressing the gathering, H E Gregor W Koessler, Austrian Ambassador to Oman, Saudi Arabia and Yemen mentioned, “Austria welcomes the chance to open its consulate in Muscat.
“Sheikh Faisal al Hashar, a very respected character, will serve as the new Austrian honorary consul in Oman.”

He added that the two nations have shared a cordial connection more than the years.

Austrian enterprise delegations frequently pay a visit to the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to take enterprise ties forward, H E Koessler added.

Sheikh Faisal has a profession that spans more than 35 years in the public and private sectors. Besides his private enterprise and investments, he is the chairman of Rural Areas Electricity Company, deputy chairman of Electricity Holdings Co (Nama Group) and the chairman of the board of Taageer Finance Company.

Sheikh Faisal mentioned, “I value this position as a further milestone in the enhancement and strengthening of the relationship between Oman and Austria.”
