A group of volunteers has launched a, initiative called ‘Bisahbathum’ [Together with them] to help people with disabilities buy books at the Muscat International Book Fair being held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Team of volunteers assists folks with disabilities at Muscat book fair

Speaking to Muscat Daily Al Hussain al Amri, head of the group stated, “We began this initiative on February 12. We used social media channels such as Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook to promote the idea. We have 42 volunteers including university students, staff and job seekers in the team.”

He added, “The initiative aims to help people with disabilities buy and get their books easily and also spread awareness of the importance of reading and acquiring books. We also seek to raise awareness among the community to help people with special needs.”

The team has set up a particular section at the book fair to meet with folks with disabilities and accompany them till they purchase their books.

Amri stated the team will continue to aid folks with disabilities even right after the finish of the book fair.

“We hope to participate in various events and exhibitions to raise awareness among the community members.”
