The planet championship, held at Brown Indoor Arena, Redbridge Sports Centre, London saw participants from a number of nations such as the United States, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, India, Oman, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom.

Bodhi Life Skills is affiliated to the Isshinryu kind of martial arts and led by Rensie G Kumar, a Guinness World Record holder. Kumar holds the coveted 5th Dan – Black Belt, certified straight below O’Sensei Kichiro Shimabuku.

A proud Kumar lauded his students’ determination to win. “Preparations for the world championship commenced four months prior to the championship, with the determination to excel. When the spirited team reached London, our focus was to win medals. Now, here we are in Oman with 15 medals spread across various categories,” an elated Kumar told Muscat Daily
.

Kumar also won a gold and a silver medal in London at the championship. Kumar, who established Bodhi Life Skills in 2006, stated the martial art kind is rigorous and requires 4 to six years of devoted practise for a karateka (practitioner of karate) to get the title of Dan-1 or black belt.

“In addition to learning the martial art form, which primarily helps in self-defence, the karateka also gets disciplined, mature and stays focused,” he stated.

Kumar attributes the academy’s good results to the devoted parents who want to see their youngsters progress. “Our participation and performance at the 42nd World Karate Championship for 2019, which was organised by World Union of Karate-Do Federations based in the United Kingdom, is a great testament that Oman is on the right track with regard to karate,” he stated.

Bodhi Life Skills students have attended several planet events and prior to London occasion, Kumar and his team attended a 20-day Isshinryu Seminar, in June in Okinawa, Japan.

“The seminar was a prequel to the forthcoming international championship to be held in London, United Kingdom. The Bodhi Life Skills, Oman team was elated as they were to receive training and certification directly from its president and Red Belt – O’Sensei Kichiro Shimabuku.”
