Omani students made their presence felt at the world’s biggest vocational skills competition, WorldSkills Kazan 2019, which is underway in Russia till August 27.

Skill test: Omani team ready to make the mark in Russia

The 24-member Omani team, resplendent in national dress, wowed spectators as they walked by means of the parade along with 62 other participating nations.

The Omani delegation is taking component beneath the aegis of the Ministry of Manpower, with 24 students from technical and vocational colleges in the sultanate.

GlobeSkills, which began from August 22, promotes the rewards of skilled trade specialists. More than 1,300 participants from 63 nations are taking component in the competitors.

The competitions will see contests take location in 56 abilities places, ranging from building, info and communication technologies to creativity and style.

The spectacular ceremony, on August 22, saw efficiency of planet-renowned specialists whose inventions have shaped the 21st century. Robot Sophia, the world’s only android with citizenship and a passport, was the unique guest at the ceremony.

“Skills change lives and they can transform societies and economies, as well as bring prosperity and stability across the world,” stated Simon Bartley, GlobeSkills president. “In the next few days, you will see what excellence can achieve.”

Bartley added that participants bring a message of unity, as ‘they call out for a world that addresses their concerns’ opening the way for green-collar jobs and equality.

More than two.five lakh individuals attended the opening ceremony at Kazan Arena, exactly where youth from 63 nations gave a show of numerous cultures.

“We have great expectations for the next few days, our anticipation has been heightened by this marvellous opening ceremony and the sight of all those young people carrying the flags and hopes of their generation. What they show, and what we say, loud and clear, is that Skills Change Lives, and that they can transform societies and economies, as well as bring prosperity and stability across the world,” stated Bartley in the course of his speech at the ceremony.

Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister, Russian Federation opened the occasion. “Russia is hosting a global-level skills competition for the first time, and we are very proud of that. The WorldSkills Competition has become far more than just a youth contest. In fact, it has grown into a competition for the future, forming a diverse multicultural and international platform where participants can work, compete, and communicate; for the future, where inspiration, discovery, friendship, and new achievements find place.”
