MoTC to cancel taxi permit for violating operations rule

H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, has issued a selection (No 77/2019) to amend some provisions of the executive regulations of the Land Transport Law.

Speaking to Muscat Daily
, Eng Ahmed bin Sulaiman al Yaribi, director of Land Transport in MoTC, stated, “The amendment has a list of violations and administrative penalties which includes cancellation of permits for taxis choosing passengers from unauthorised locations.

“The violator will pay a fine of RO50 for the first time, RO100 for the second time and RO200 for the third time. If the violation is repeated for the fourth time, the permit will be cancelled. The earlier fine for violation was RO200.”

The selection was issued on May 21 and came into impact the subsequent day.

MoTC has taken numerous measures to streamline taxi solutions in Muscat governorate.

As component of these measures, the ministry had granted two licences for operating taxi solutions.

The very first was granted to Mwasalat Taxi for operating service at Muscat airport and malls. The second was granted to Marhaba Taxi to operate service at hotels and Port Sultan Qaboos.

Both operators also supply on-demand solutions.

The ministry had stated that orange taxi operators are not permitted to supply their solutions at the places assigned to the two businesses and on-demand service unless they operate beneath the licensed businesses.
