Preparations for the 49th National Day this year are in full swing, the Supreme Committee for National Day Celebrations has said.

49th National Day preparations begin

To mark the 49th National Day on November 18, colourful and decorative lights will be set up from Muscat to Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque although the national flag will flutter from the Al Bustan Roundabout to the Barka Roundabout. Fireworks will be held for 30 minutes in Amerat and Al Khoudh. Speaking to Muscat Daily, an official from the Supreme Committee for National Day Celebrations stated, “This year the celebrations will be more or less on the lines of those in the past three years. The lighting decorations will showcase Oman’s culture and heritage.” The official stated that the preparations for this year’s National Day started in proper earnest following the conclusion of final year’s occasion. “While designing the lighting and other decorative items, those in charge have to ensure that they can be manufactured locally. Another important aspect is that the lighting and decorations should not affect the visibility of motorists in any manner.” The decoration lights will be set up from subsequent month onwards. The official stated that these lights will be tested extensively just before getting switched on. “Hundreds of colourful lights and national flags will be set up in the entire city of Muscat. The lighting design this year revolves around flowers.” Meanwhile, preparations for the 50th National Day are on track also. “The 2020 National Day will coincide with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s 50 years of rule. So celebrations will happen at a grand scale all over the country and not Muscat alone. That is why we have already started working on the project.”
