Workshop focuses on part of education in reaching sustainable improvement objectives

It was held beneath the patronage of H E Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed bin Nassir al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education and was attended by H E Dr Rawiyah bint Saud al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education.

The workshop aimed to highlight the objectives of sustainable improvement 2030, to examine mechanisms to create the contribution of greater education institutions in advertising the objectives of sustainable improvement in basic, and the fourth objective (education) in specific.

H E Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Higher Education mentioned, “The 17 objectives of the Sustainable Development Plan 2030 started implementation in January 2016. These objectives are aimed at ending poverty in all its types, moving the planet towards sustainability and resilience. New targets contain everybody without having exception.

“The plan addresses the three dimensions of sustainable development: social, economic and environmental.”

He added, “The fourth objective of the 17 sustainable development goals is education. This goal aims to provide quality and comprehensive education for all and enhance lifelong learning opportunities. We urge academics and those involved in higher education to share their views and suggestions for the best ways of transforming knowledge in higher education institutions to support the goals of sustainable development.”

Dr Hana Mohammed Amin, scientific analysis advisor in MoHE, delivered a presentation on the objectives of the Sustainable Development Plan 2030, the aim of education and the part of the United Nations in stick to-up programme.

“Sustainable development requires a tremendous shift in thinking and that normal education process will not be able to achieve transformation objectives. The sultanate has formed a national team that includes representatives from ministries and government units to follow up the implementation of the plan and implement the fourth goal,” mentioned Dr Hana.

Dr Adham bin Turki al Said, a lecturer at College of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University, presented a functioning paper on the part of institutions of greater education in instilling a culture of sustainable improvement amongst university students.

He stressed the significance of making use of scientific analysis for the betterment of society.

Dr Said reviewed a quantity of student projects the framework of classrooms which have been utilized to serve the neighborhood such as the green homes project. These projects helped to attain the sustainable improvement objectives, such as innovation.
