The operetta Tale of Muttrah was presented by much more than 300 guys, ladies and youngsters from the wilayat of Muttrah. The operetta tells the story of Muttrah, on how it has evolved more than the years and its achievements in the Blessed Renaissance below the reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
H E Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal al Busaidi, Wali of Muttrah and chairman of the Organising Committee of the festival, stated, “The thought of the festival came inside the framework of a national aim, an try to supply a special occasion that serves the wilayat and the nation. It also seeks to highlight the heritage, culture and contribute in the promotion of tourism in the wilayat. Muttrah Gate is well-liked amongst vacationers as it is the entry point to the wilayat.
“The gate is on the must-see list of travel programmes prepared by travel and tour companies. We want to benefit from that as this will enable more people to visit tourist landmarks in the wilayat.”
H E Busaidi stated that the festival has several activities, such as drawing contests on Omani heritage boats, a festival of classic vehicles and motorcycles, show of marine heritage products and sailing activities. He added that there will be birds and police dogs’ shows, fine arts competitors about Muttrah and art shows.
H E Busaidi stated that ‘Ayood’ will be held all through the festival. It is a heritage souq for well-liked dishes of the sultanate, especially Muttrah.
There will be blood donation campaign, participation from Oman Road Safety Association and children’s programmes such as face painting, drawing and unique competitions.
Festival activities will continue till March 28.
