Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represented by the Department of Public Relations & Information, celebrated the 48th Renaissance Day of the sultanate on Tuesday. The ceremony, held at the university’s conference hall, was attended by senior administrators, academicians, employees, and students from the university and schools in Muscat.
July 23 marks the Omani Renaissance beneath the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. July 23, 1970 was the starting of a glorious era to construct a far better life for citizens.
As per a press release, the ceremony at SQU started with songs expressing patriotism and adore for the nation and the leader of the nation. This was followed by a video presentation of the speech of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on his very first arrival in Muscat right after assuming the reins of energy.
“We hope that this day will mark the beginning of a new age and a great future for us all. We promise you that we shall do our duty towards the people of our dear country. We also hope that every one of you will do his duty in helping us to build the thriving and happy future that we seek for this country. Unless there is co-operation between the government and the people we will not be able to build our country with the speed required to free her from the backwardness she has endured for so long.” These words of His Majesty the Sultan spurred citizens to return to their nation and to function tough for the improvement of the nation.
Asilah al Maamari recited a poem titled, ‘Praise be to Allah. I lived during the reign of Qaboos’. This was followed by musical efficiency by the Steel Band of the Royal Guard of Oman.
The occasion hosted Yaqoob bin Yousif al Zadjali, who described the scene when His Majesty the Sultan arrived in Muscat right after assuming the reins of energy. Zadjali was amongst the group of folks who greeted His Majesty the Sultan at Bait al Falaj in 1970. Zadjali narrated the ceremonial reception accorded to His Majesty the Sultan in Muscat upon his arrival.
He also talked about the evolution of media in Oman that corresponded with the improvement of the nation, and the good modifications that occurred to the media field in Oman given that the advent of the Blessed Renaissance.
Zadjali began functioning at the Ministry of Information in 1974. He worked as a director, broadcaster and media producer for several tv programmes. He also established sports programmes on OmanTelevision. He worked as a sportscaster and a news reporter.
Prof Ali Huwaishal al Shuaili, deputy vice chancellor for Administrative & Financial Affairs, mentioned, “This celebration comes as a token of gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan’s patronage and continued privileges bestowed on the SQU community. SQU derives its identity and its vision from His Majesty the Sultan’s guidance and support.”
