The deliberations of the joint session of the State Council and Majlis A’Shura was held on Thursday to resolve the differences on ‘Living Aquatic Wealth’ draft law, in preparation for presenting it to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

State Council, Majlis A’Shura go over draft law on Living Aquatic Wealth

The second joint session of the third annual session of the sixth term was held beneath the chairmanship of H E Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri in the presence of H E Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, chairman of Majlis A’Shura, the honourable members of the State Council and Majlis A’Shura and the secretary basic of the State Council.

The meeting emphasised the establishment of state institutions and law, and saw substantial discussions of articles in between the two councils on the draft, stated a press release.

The State Council chairman in his opening speech affirmed that the meeting comes in implementation of the Royal Order of His Majesty the Sultan to return Draft Law of Living Aquatic Wealth to the Council of Oman for a joint session in between the State Council and the Shura Council to go over the observations currently produced by the two councils in accordance with Article 58 (bis) (37) of the Basic Law of the State.


He explained that each councils studied the draft law on Living Aquatic Wealth and agreed on numerous articles, and held differential views about 5 articles: (16, 26, 32, 34, 56) in addition to the new post proposed by Majlis A’Shura. There had been six articles of contrast supplies according to the memorandum, and will be resolved and agreed upon in the course of the meeting in accordance with the guidelines and procedures that had been agreed upon in the earlier joint sessions.


The members discussed the variations concerning the articles of the draft law, stressing the significance of consensus on them in the public interest, and enhancing the contribution of the fisheries sector to the national economy as 1 of the promising sectors of diversification. 

At the finish of the meeting, the State Council chairman praised the meaningful discussion that took spot in the joint session which was devoted to reviewing the variations in between the two councils in some articles which had been reviewed and voted on and would advantage the homeland and its citizens.
