Over 44,000 vacationers go to Dhofar governorate in seven months: MoT

Muscat –

Over 44,000 vacationers visited Dhofar governorate in between October 2017 and April 2018. According to Marhoon bin Said al Ameri, director common of tourism in Dhofar, the figures are a outcome of the efforts taken by the ministry to market the governorate as a winter location mostly for vacationers from Europe.

“What distinguishes winter tourism in Dhofar is the presence of tourist groups coming from Europe to the governorate on board direct flights.

“As many as 44,420 tourists visited the governorate from October 2017 to April 2018. Of these 25,524 came on board cruises from September 2017 until the end of April 2018 – an attractive factor in the growth of the winter tourist season,” Ameri stated.

This also translated into higher occupancy prices in the 5- and 4-star hotels in the governorate.

Ameri stated that the percentage of occupancy in 5-star and 4-star hotels exceeded 93 per cent, which indicates the good results of winter season in the Governorate of Dhofar. He noted that the biggest proportion of vacationers going to the governorate in the winter have been Europeans.

Occupancy price of Salalah Rotana Resort reached 93 per cent, Salalah Beach Resort saw 93 per cent, Crowne Plaza Salalah saw 80 per cent, Mirbat Marriott Resort 71 per cent and Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara saw 57 per cent.

Among the 4-star hotels, the Juweira Boutique Hotel saw 91 per cent occupancy in the course of the exact same period, Hilton Salalah Resort saw 54 per cent and Salalah Gardens Hotel saw 66 per cent.

He stated several vacationers visited archaeological web sites such as the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, Museum of the Frankincense Land, Samahram and the conventional souq.
